Coral Reefs
Project: a recycled reef biome
25% of all marine species find their home in the amazing, vibrant underwater world of coral reefs. But it’s a fragile world and if we don’t take steps to mitigate the damage already done, we’ll lose this ecosystem - and life in it - perhaps for good.
In this lesson, we’ll talk all about coral reefs, discover an intriguing symbiotic relationship, and uncover the truth about global warming and its impact on reefs worldwide.
We’ll then learn how to recreate a coral reef biome using recycled materials you probably already have at home! Preschool and Elementary learning extension guides have been provided with free printables, game ideas and book lists to help aid further study.
Deep Ocean
Project: 5 layer ocean jar
Did you know we’ve explored more of outer space than we have the oceans of our own planet! Let’s take a deep dive into the big blue to see what lies beneath. What do you think we’ll find?
In this lesson, we’ll talk about the 5 layers of the ocean, learn about how deep sea trenches are formed, and imagine the bizarre creatures that might make the deep ocean their home.
We’ll then learn how to make an ocean jar using 5 household liquids. Preschool and Elementary learning extension guides have been provided with free printables, game ideas and book lists to help aid further study.
