Birds In My Backyard: FREE Printable Book
Hi Kid Lab, Sarah here.
This fall my kids have been enjoying spotting different types of birds as we walk in our neighborhood and play outside. Autumn is a great time to talk about migration and other natural cycles they can observe.
Our Play Lab theme this month is Birds, and I’ve been posting ideas for learning about birds on my Instagram account @drawpaintprint. Here’s a little printable book you can use for birdwatching with the children in your life. I chose some of the most common and easy-to-spot birds for you to color and observe.
With a few simple folds and one cut, a sheet of plain white paper can become a mini bird book that’s perfect for little hands!
HOW TO:
Step 1: Print Birds in my Backyard
Step 2: Fold the paper in half along the cut line.
Step 3: Fold in half again. The paper is now folded into four sections.
Step 4: Fold in half a third time. The paper is now folded into eight parts. This will be the size of the finished book.
Step 5: Unfold the paper to your first fold line so that you can see the cut line. Use scissors to trim along the cut line so that the middle pages of the book are separated.
Step 6: Refold the book so that the first page is Birds in my Backyard and the last page is Made By.
Step 7: Add color to your birds with any drawing tools you like—colored pencils, crayons, markers, etc.!
I hope you enjoy this little book and get to make some bird observations with your family! You can even make some tally marks to see which birds you spot most often. Please tag us so we can see your bird books!
