What To Expect At Story Lab
Books and art, two of our very favorite things! During Story Labs, we let books guide our learning. We explore related concepts through hands-on projects, offer activities designed to build your child’s literacy and writing confidence, and make room for book browsing in our cozy new home at Read With Me.
How much does a Story Lab session cost?
The suggested donation for each Story Lab is $12. We are a pay-what-you-can nonprofit. Read more about how we operate here.
** Please note: Caregiver must remain with child at all times.**
Guided learning Experience
During each session, teaching artist Sarah Johnston will guide participants through a unique learning experience related to the selected story. Watch your child’s eyes light up as they learn new concepts especially crafted for their level!
Make An Art Project
We believe every kid needs a safe space where they can tinker with materials, play-test budding ideas, and dream big! At each Story Lab, kids will have access to our materials to create a fun art project related to the selected book.
Build literacy skills
During each Story Lab, we explore books and offer hands-on ways to build your child’s reading and writing confidence. Sarah (and Read With Me book shop owner, Christine) will be available to offer support and suggest resources to caregivers looking to reinforce early literacy at home.
Learn Through Play
Research shows that giving children open-ended materials (like sticks, clay, paint, cloth, wood) builds confidence, competency, independence and authentic expression. It can also help children avoid boredom as they begin seeing the creative potential in everything. In short, it fosters imagination! Each Story Lab will provide plenty of opportunities for playful learning.
